APPLICATION: PRESSURE EQUIPMENT DIRECTIVE − PED
The European Community has decided to pass a set of rules called the Pressure Equipment Directive – PED. These rules state that all kind of pressurized equipment must have a safety system that prevents the pressure to exceed the Max Allowable Operating Pressure that
the equipment has to be approved for. In the past the way of preventing the pressure to rise was to either install a pressure relief valve or a pressure bypass valve.

SwipGuard Safety Pressure Switch Type P1360
TEMPRESS has developed a new device – SwipGuard − that can be installed in the process line and give an emergency signal to either a pump or an electrical bypass valve. The SwipGuard has been tested and approved according to the requirements in the Standard by TÜV.
SwipGuard acts as an ordinary switch in the security circuit and is set to break the circuit by a preset pressure.
SwipGuard has an internal detector to survey if the bellow is leaking. In that case the sensor will give a signal that can operate a surveillance system in a PLC or PC monitoring.
SwipGuard is designed to meet the new PED zone I, II, III and IV requirements for emergency surveillance in pressurized piping systems.
SwipGuard is available in an industrial ver- sion for direct mounting by thread and in a special hygienic version with diaphragm seal for sanitary industries. Which allow it to be used for all kind of process equipment.
SwipGuard system consists of two independent and redundant switches.

This measuring device is approved on the same level as safety valves and complies with the hygiene requirements that apply to food industry equipment. “It’s precisely this approval by the relevant authorities that is absolutely crucial for us,” emphasises Mr Schubert and points out: “This is a unique product that I’d love to have made myself. However, it was Tem- press that got the idea, and they’re also the ones with the expertise to put it into practice.”
